                            TOOTHPASTE

Back in the 1840's, toothpowder contained ground-up coral, cuttlefish bone, burnt eggshells, or porcelain. They were colored with cochineal, which is derived from the bodies of tropical scale insects.

Today, toothpaste's white color alone has 10 or more ingredients, along with enhancers & binders. The main ingredient, is finely powdered chalk called calcium carbonate, or another mineral powder such as aluminum oxide, which is an ingredient used to make cement. Then you take titanium oxide, a white powder, which is added to make the paste whiter.

Silica is used to get the abrasiveness in toothpaste. It is the actually the same white packet of stuff that is put in a purse, luggage, vitamins, etc, that is clearly marked with a label, not to ingest. Detergents can actually be used to make toothpaste foam...

       THE TOXICITY OF PHTHALATES

Dr. Harvey Karp, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the UCLA School of Medicine, provides a special report about the chemicals that are added to making toys.

Phthalates are chemicals that are added to hard polyvinyl chloride (PVC) to make it soft and pliable. The most widely used phthalate in children's toys is diisonyl phthalate (DINP). They have been used in the production of children's toys for more than two decades, contributing to up to 50% of the weight of the plastic contained in toys that are readily available and sold in US stores.

Over the past years, scientific research accumulated demonstrating the toxic effects of DINP revealed does-related damage to the liver and kidneys of experimental animals (and increased cancer at the highest doses).

Govenmental Public Health Agencies concluded that phthalates can leach out of the plastic (mouthing plastics can suck the additives out similiar to the way chewing pulls the flavor out of the gum).

While the United States Government, the US Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) released a preliminary report on the health effects of DINP. They found that DINP is toxic to the liver, kidney, and other organs.. some of these toxins are still being exposed to young children who suck & chew on various plastic objects...
